Crossreference: Gnosticism

I've said a lot on Gnosticism, both making up my own definition, and using it in several senses. So for those of you confused by my usage, I have compiled a handy guide to posts that use the term, most recent first.

In "PoMo Sex", I argue that sexual practices reveal the metaphysics, and that Gnosticism was a Greek response to the polytheism of Homer that essentially neutered philosophy.

In "Trinitarian Science: Exhibit B", I discuss the effect of parasites on brain states to disprove Gnosticism. I also give two definitions of Gnosticism, which alas, are also different from yours. (I review the conclusions of "Exhibit B" in "Exhibit C"  if that helps.)

In "Trinitarian Science: Exhibit A", I try to outline the need to move science beyond materialism and Gnosticism to Trinitarian view.

In "QM Redux", I review the origins of Gnosticism and its influence on the interpretation of QM and why this has stopped science from advancing. I also discuss why it has led to impasse in philosophy, and a Nietzschean elevation of power.

In "Newton, Nature & 'Nosis" I argue that the history of Physics from Newton through QM has evolved from monomaniacal materialism, to gnostic dualism and then stagnated.

In "More on Einstein", I mention the Gnosticism of Niels Bohr, the adversary of Einstein and architect of the Gnostic view of Quantum Mechanics.

In "Hope, the bridge of Osgiliath" I argue that 1 Cor 13 is addressed to Gnosticism, and a little later, that "diversity" as the superiority of the US over Nazi Germany is also attributed to Gnosticism.

In "Faith & Science", I argue that the rise of inductive science in the Enlightenment was a drastic change from the Gnostic way of doing science that had previously dominated. Then I go on for 2 paragraphs on all the evils of Gnosticism that have infected science.

In "Two Turning Points", I point out that the Terri Schiavo disaster was precipitated by Gnosticism, and that Christa Lilly disproves the Gnostic thesis. (BTW, there was an even more famous case in Poland involving a man who was in a coma for 15 years.) I also bring up Martha (sister of Mary) and Job as illustrations of the point.

In "Final Causes", I argue that Gnosticism is attacked by Paul in Romans 1:18. Later on in the article, I draw an analogy to de Soto, the questionable ethics of "pure science", and even NASA's mission.

In "Dark Matter, Panspermia, and Genesis" I argue that the Young Earth Creationists (YEC) are Gnostic in their resolution of science with the Bible, they employ a Gnostic hermeneutics.

In "Music, Prayer and Holiness" I argue that the decision of the worship committee at my PCA church to eliminate the choir and justify it on some Biblical hermeneutics is a Gnostic view of worship. In the same article, I criticize a popular view of prayer (that it is nothing but a petition) as a Gnostic view of prayer. And finally, I critique a popular view of Holiness (as George Barna illustrates) as Gnostic.

In "Metaphysics and Lotz" I criticize Anne Graham Lotz' views on evangelical feminism as Gnostic (ignoring the bodily dimension to the whole issue.)

In "Truth Lies and Videotape: part 1" I discuss the NY legislature's embarrassment in declaring gender a personal decision, and then later realizing that this law had huge unintended consequences, such that a jailbird can declarre himself a woman and get locked up in the woman's prison, etc. This is Gnostic nonsense, I averred.
